On a crisp fall morning last Saturday, Oct. 22, more than 100 residents and friends of EdenHill Communities helped rekindle the tradition of Altenheim Day, a historical re-creation of a 1910 farmer bringing provisions to share with area seniors. Meeting in Comal Cemetery for a brief prayer service, participants followed a horse-and wagon with teamster and outrider in period dress in a procession to the EdenHill campus on Lakeview Boulevard for a ceremony and celebration.
The day also saw the dedication of a plaque to the late Elmo Fischer, EdenHill’s first professional administrator (1961-1968) and a pioneer in the state and nation’s senior care industry. EdenHill plans to carry on the tradition annually.
